In India, tens of thousands of migrant workers have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 amid 122 million job losses nationwide. “COVID-19 has presented us — and I think much of the world — with a complete and total autopsy of the corpse of neoliberal policy of 28 years in India,” says award-winning journalist P. Sainath. Sainath founded the People’s Archive of Rural India, which documents rural India, where 833 million people live, but who are often left out of media and policy representation. “That is neoliberal thinking,” says Sainath. “It makes rules to protect the beautiful people and it has no thought for the marginalized.”
