Cambodian Tycoon’s Company Reclaims Land in Mekong for Satellite City

A company owned by a powerful millionaire close to Prime Minister Hun Sen is reclaiming land in the Mekong River to create a new Phnom Penh satellite city on Norea Island. This development will be connected by bridge to an earlier reclamation project, known as Diamond Island. Activists are warning about negative impacts on the environment and the livelihoods of local people.
