In this fourth installment of the Radio Free Independent Media Training Manual we take a critical look at how musicians, specifically Zack de la Rocha, inform their audiences to educate the public on ideas being censored on mainstream networks. Zack’s practice of mediating news through both song, interviewing academics and creating his own reports is exemplary, as it creates a relational point for mediation of information that is well established from a point of trust. Acting independently, Zack and his band Rage Against the Machine became the soundtrack to the anti-globalization movement, informing listeners about how the system as a whole functions in a way that could be easily understood by anyone.
