Countries worldwide have appealed for calm following deadly retaliatory attacks between Israel and Palestinians. Israel has launched fresh airstrikes on Tuesday against targets in Gaza, as Hamas fired dozens of rockets toward Israel. Authorities in Israel says 15 militants were killed in its prior overnight strikes, while Gaza health officials say 24 Palestinians died, including children.

The escalation in violence follows days of protests over plans to evict Palestinian residents from a neighborhood in East Jerusalem The retaliatory attacks caused outrage among Palestinians - with new protests erupting in Bethlehem.
