The Thatcherite model prevails in France: those in power are not for turning. Even with rising piles of uncollected rubbish, empty petrol stations, cancelled trains, closed classrooms and blocked roads. They reconcile themselves to disrupted underground services and weekly or even daily demonstrations. And if the situation becomes untenable, they requisition and repress.
